Paloma
Safety First
At Paloma, we see water heater safety as a joint effort by you, the homeowner, and ourselves. We need you to understand the risks of operation and to check regularly to make sure that your Paloma is installed, vented and operating properly. But we at Paloma try to make this easy for you by our commitment to designing industry-leading safety features into our product line.

Protection Against Scalding
Our first concern is to guard your family against scalding. This is achieved through the ability to set hot-water temperatures with the digital controller. With the Paloma Digital Tankless, you can make it a practice to use the lowest appropriate temperature for whatever you are doing. With the exception of dishwashing and some kinds of laundry, almost everything you use hot water for is best accomplished at 100 to 108 degrees F. Why set your hot water to a higher, scalding temperature? And in case your Paloma is set at a scalding temperature, we do our best to protect you in the shower. The moment you turn on the Bath Controller, it takes priority over the Main Controller.

Carbon Monoxide Safety
Paloma Digital Tankless indoor models have another safety feature called the ICAD - Incomplete Combustion Avoidance Device. The Paloma ICAD is a sophisticated system that monitors and optimizes combustion in the firing chamber, and shuts down the unit if there is a problem.

Fire Protection
For fire protection, all Paloma Digital Tankless have an Overheat Limiter Wrap. This is a plastic film that is wrapped around the Heat Exchanger where combustion takes place. Quite simply, if the plastic melts or becomes deformed in any way, the unit shuts down. Another Paloma safety feature is Flame Failure Protection. This is a thermocouple, which constantly checks the main burners to ensure proper firing and guards against flameouts. The Flame Failure Protection automatically shuts down the unit if any problems exist.

Anti-boil Protector
The Anti-boil Protector is yet another safety feature. If for any reason water is not flowing adequately through the unit, a thermistor-type temperature sensor detects that overly high water temperature levels have been reached and shuts off the unit.

Protecting Your Paloma Against The Cold
For those of you who live in areas with severe winters, your Paloma is equipped with Freeze Protection. The Paloma 6.4, 8.4, 9.5, 7.4 and 6.6 series and the Condensing PHH-32 series have electrical heating elements that protect the unit in conditions down to minus 30 degrees F (including windchill factor). The Paloma 5.3 series is protected to m inus 20 degrees F.
